Cryogenic Materials & Physical Properties Testing

At the IES Murrieta Test Facility (MTF), we specialize in evaluating material behavior and physical properties under extreme cryogenic and high-temperature environments. Our capabilities span thermal, mechanical, and structural characterization of metals, composites, polymers, insulation systems, and other advanced materials. We routinely test at temperatures approaching -423°F (20.4 K) and, for specialized applications, can reach -452.5°F (4.2 K). Our high-temperature capabilities extend to several thousand degrees Fahrenheit for specialized applications.

Testing capabilities include tensile strength, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, fracture toughness, fatigue, and other critical material properties under cryogenic, ambient, and elevated-temperature conditions. Customized fixturing, precision instrumentation, and advanced data acquisition enable accurate and repeatable measurement of material performance in demanding environments.

Our engineers and materials specialists bring extensive experience in cryogenic science, materials characterization, failure analysis, and specialized test development. We work closely with customers across the aerospace, space, energy, transportation, medical, and advanced technology industries to develop customized test programs that generate reliable, actionable data for material qualification, design validation, and research and development.
